Dean of Studies

Dear all,

I'm writing to let you know that Dean of Studies Tom Porcello was nominated to the Board and the Board has reappointed him for a second five-year term as Dean starting July 1, 2026. I am deeply grateful to the reappointment review committee, which included Professors Stephane Andrade, David Esteban, Christine Howlett, and Sarah Pearlman, as well as students Nicole Gao, Owen Gifford, and Mateo Tavarez. The committee members, Dean Alamo, and I are unanimous in our delight that Dean Porcello has accepted this important role for the next five years.

The Dean of Studies is responsible for implementing the curriculum, overseeing academic advising, and carrying out faculty legislation affecting the fulfillment of academic requirements for the degree. In their review, the committee found Dean Porcello to be a thoughtful, thorough, humane, and well-prepared Dean of Studies. Both students and faculty appreciated the clarity of the office’s policies and procedures and the transparent and consistent approach Dean Porcello fosters in the Dean of Studies area.
