Seungsook Moon, Professor of Sociology, and Jihye Seong, Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, received a 2026 Seed Program for Korean Studies grant from the Korean Studies Promotion Service, a division of The Academy of Korean Studies under the Ministry of Education, South Korea. The title of their project is “Establishing the Foundation for Multidisciplinary Korean Studies based on the Liberal Arts College Model,” and through May 2029, Drs. Moon and Seong will use the grant for teaching, field trips, study travel, students’ workshops, faculty seminars, and scholarship toward furthering opportunity and interest in Korean Studies at Vassar. With this award, the College joins nine other colleges and universities around the world in receiving a multi-year grant through the Seed Program in 2026. Established 20 years ago, the Korean Studies Promotion Service aims to cultivate programming and scholarship in Koreanology at institutions worldwide, and to explore new methods and perspectives toward widespread and deeper engagement with Korean language, culture, and South Korea’s past and present.
