Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the film’s release, the Film Department is hosting a screening of Minor Visions (2001) by Vassar’s own Associate Professor of Film, Denise Iris. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Iris; Charles H. Arndt, Associate Professor of Russian Studies; and Andreea Drogeanu, Tribeca Film Festival Programmer.

Fusing documentary and poetic fiction, Minor Visions follows a bumbling young scholar who sets off into the Romanian countryside to conduct a study on spirituality and superstition. Armed with a cheap camcorder and doubtful research skills, he records a series of encounters with ordinary citizens who are trying to make sense of their lives in the wake of the communist regime’s downfall.
