Ed Buie II, Assistant Professor of Astronomy, received a grant award from the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in support of the program titled "A Systematic Search for Wind-CGM Interactions in Star-forming Galaxies.”

STScI receives NASA funding to support this research using the Hubble Space Telescope. “A Systematic Search for Wind-CGM Interactions in Star-forming Galaxies” is a collaboration between Ed and researchers at STScI and other higher education institutions, including The Johns Hopkins University and Arizona State University. The program’s goal is to “unveil th[e] elusive process” by which “galactic superwinds play a pivotal role in regulating star formation and producing the observed stellar mass function.” As part of this grant, Ed will be running simulations of star-forming galaxies spanning the relevant mass range of observations to provide further insight into the properties of this dynamic gas.
