A message from the Board: Winter Board of Trustees Meeting

February 18, 2026

Dear all,

We are writing to update you about the recent Winter Board of Trustees meeting, which took place on Zoom last week. Here are the highlights:

  1. The Board heard a presentation from Vice President of Operations for Technology and Human Resources Carlos Garcia regarding Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education.
  2. The Board heard a presentation from Dean of Faculty Demetrius Eudell and Professor of Economics Sarah Pearlman on pedagogical and ideological diversity in the classroom.
  3. The Board heard a presentation from Professor of Religion Christopher White and Director of Institutional Research and Strategic Decision Making Bini Tesfamariam on Vassar’s upcoming re-accreditation process.
  4. The Board participated in breakout sessions focused on the Priorities and Planning Review.
  5. The Board heard a Budget and Finance presentation from Vice President of Finance and Administration Bryan Swarthout and Trustee Eric Beringause, and approved the proposed budget for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.
  6. The Board voted to approve the proposed promotions of several faculty members from the rank of Associate Professor to the rank of Full Professor.

Thank you to the many different groups on campus who helped make the Board meeting successful. The Chair of the Board, Sharon Chang will be coming to campus later this semester to meet with faculty.
