Veterans Day
Dear all,
Today is Veterans Day, a chance to highlight Vassar’s commitment to and appreciation for individuals who have served our country. This includes students, faculty, and staff, who are valued members of our diverse community.
Vassar’s association with veterans is long-standing. Even when Vassar was an all-women’s college, the College welcomed WWII veterans, who were newly eligible for the GI Bill®, to study here through a special charter issued in 1946. Today, we actively recruit veterans into our student body through the Vassar Veterans Initiative because we know they bring perspectives, life experiences, and skills that enrich us all.
Veterans come from a variety of backgrounds and have differing personal interests, aspirations, and perspectives. Alongside this diversity, veterans share a common path, one of sacrifice to aid their fellow citizens. Their ethos of service is an inspiration.
This morning, we will honor our community’s veterans with a special breakfast at The Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts. Today, let us continue to reflect on how we each can embrace the spirit of service that veterans embody.
Happy Veterans Day.
