Sad News: Angela Tapia Arce

Dear all,

I am writing with sad news. Angela Tapia Arce, wife of Michael Reyes Salas, Assistant Professor in Africana Studies, has passed away. Angela was just beginning an exceptionally promising scholarly career when she became ill with a severe and chronic illness that took her life far too soon. She is survived by her husband Michael, her cat Upa, and a global network of friends and family who cherished her.

Dr. Tapia Arce, an Indigenous Quechua scholar born in Puno, Peru, earned her PhD in Latin American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Her ethnographic research focused on Andean women’s clothing, and she was preparing to begin a multi-year postdoctoral fellowship in Anthropology at Vassar. Angela and Michael together brought an enormous amount of love and joy to their communities, and Angela will be deeply missed. More information on funerary services can be found here.

Our deepest sympathies go to Professor Reyes Salas in this time of profound loss.
