False Alarm

June 20, 2022

Dear all,

I am writing to follow-up on this morning’s message from Safety and Security that was a false alarm. The campus is not in any danger. Receiving such an email can be terrifying, particularly given the context of the mass shootings that have been occurring throughout our country.

On behalf of the College, I am very sorry that this happened, and we are working to ensure this will not recur.

Some people have written to me about making available support services. If you need to talk with someone, you may contact the CARE office at Vassar or the Dutchess County Crisis Support Line. Additionally, the College has periodically conducted trainings on “run, hide, fight” with a video, and we will continue this training in the fall.

Again, please know that the campus is safe and secure. Let me know if you have any questions, and take care.
