The Passing of Jose Luis Guerra Mendoza

Dear all,

It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing, on April 14 in New Jersey, of Jose Luis Guerra Mendoza, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Computer Science. Professor Guerra had joined Vassar’s faculty earlier this year, and was teaching Computer Science I: Problem-Solving and Abstraction this term. He had come to Vassar after teaching at several institutions of higher education, including Seton Hall University, Caldwell University, and Felician College.

Professor Guerra was born in Peru, and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering at Universidad Ricardo Palma en Lima in 1985, and received a master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering in 1987. He also served in the Peruvian Air Force for 14 years before emigrating to the United States in 1998.

Professor Guerra is remembered fondly for his gentle spirit, his genial character, and his dedication to his students. On behalf of the College, I extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Rosa J. Raygada, and their children.
