Novel Coronavirus and a Healthy Campus

Dear all,

As the Novel Coronavirus continues to spread in China and globally, I wanted to reach out to let you know how we are working to keep our campus as healthy as possible. We have had no cases confirmed on the Vassar campus.

Shortly after the news of the outbreak, our Facilities Operations team worked on plans for disinfecting highly trafficked areas including classrooms, doorways, and furniture. These types of infection control measures allow for our Vassar community to stay healthy. We are also working closely with various offices across campus to provide relevant educational information as it becomes available.

Our student Health Service has been in contact with the Dutchess County Health Department and is following guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the New York State Health Department.  Dr. Balawajder and her experienced team have an excellent working relationship with these agencies and are able to obtain needed information and support as soon as it is required.

We want to remind everyone to continue practicing effective hygiene and reporting relevant symptoms to the Health Center. If an administrator or someone else from the Health Service reaches out to you, please be sure to be respond as quickly as possible.

I also want to take a moment and reflect on how difficult this situation is for our fellow community members from affected areas. Dean Alamo and I have reached out to these students and hope we can all remember how important kindness toward everyone is in these situations. I feel lucky to be in this community and know we will work together to help everyone through this challenging time.

With best wishes,
