El Paso Shooting

Dear all,

I am writing today in deep sadness about the tragic news from El Paso. A gunman, who authorities say was motivated by racially extremist hatred toward Latinxs, opened fire on families as they spent their Saturday shopping in a local department store, killing 20 people and injuring two dozen more.  And now, news of another shooting in Dayton. While a motive is not known yet there, attacks such as these are horrific and unfathomable.

As we learn more detail from El Paso, I wanted to reach out to remind all of us to care for ourselves and our community. For students who are on campus, Dean Debra Zeifman, Dean of Studies, is available for support  as both Dean Alamo and I are away. And if you are still away from campus, I hope that you are able to tap into your family and friends for support.

With a heavy heart,
