Carlos Garcia to Become Vice President of Information Technology and Human Resources

Dear all,

It is a great pleasure to inform you that Carlos Garcia will be taking on an expanded role here at Vassar in the coming months.

Carlos, who has been the Vice President of Computing and Information Services, will now become the Vice President of Information Technology and Human Resources. In this capacity, he will oversee both the Human Resources Department and Computing and Information Services (CIS)—a structure that will provide additional opportunity for both HR and CIS to continue advancing their effectiveness as service providers. Ruth Spencer will continue as Associate Vice President of Human Resources, and she will report to Carlos. The new Vice President of Finance and Administration currently being recruited will continue to oversee Finance and Budget, Accounting Services, and Facilities Operations.

Carlos brings to this new role 15 years of progressive and diverse leadership experience, and he has a Master of Business Administration from NYU’s Stern School. He played a central role in launching the new campus for New York University in Abu Dhabi, where he gained experience with organizational planning, recruitment and retention, compensation, and compliance. He has demonstrated success navigating labor relations matters and advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in teams, and he has already shown his knack for enhancing employee engagement and building professional development programs in one year working with the CIS team.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking Carlos for taking on this new responsibility. I would also like to thank Steve Dahnert and the Faculty Cabinet for providing their thoughtful insights regarding the change. Carlos is working together with Steve and Ruth on the specifics of the transition, which will complete by January 1, 2020.

Thank you,

Elizabeth H. Bradley, President
