Passing of Andrew Tallon

Dear Vassar Community,

It is with deep sadness that I write to let you know of the death of Andrew Tallon, Associate Professor of Art, on Friday, November 16 at his home in Poughkeepsie.

Professor Tallon joined the faculty of the Department of Art in 2007.  Andrew was esteemed worldwide as an innovative scholar of French Gothic art and architecture, one who brought new digital techniques to the analysis and recreation of the spatial archaeology of medieval buildings, and who shared these new techniques with fellow researchers and students. In all his work, he was an inspired and generous educator who brought the past to life in unexpectedly vivid and meaningful ways.

On Tuesday, November 20, visiting hours will be held at Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie.  When details about visiting hours are available, they will be posted on the funeral home website at https://doylefuneralhome.com/.

A Mass of Christian Burial, according the rites of the Roman Catholic Church, will be celebrated in the Vassar Chapel by Fr. Anthony Mizzi-Gili, Pastor of the Church of the Holy Trinity where Andrew and his family have been members since they moved to Poughkeepsie;  burial rites at St. Peter's Cemetery immediately follow the Mass.  The reception, at which all are welcome, will take place at Alumnae House. The service will take place on Wednesday, November 21st at 10:00am.

Please join me in expressing sympathy and support to Andrew's wife Marie, and their sons Ambrose, Augustine, Gabriel, and Anatole.
