The Environmental Cooperative received grant funding from New City Parks to implement outdoor education programs in two local parks. Expanding on current partnerships with the City of Poughkeepsie School District and community organizations, the Cooperative will host field trips for elementary students at Malcolm X Park and Pershing Avenue Park.

The programs will take place from mid-May to the end of July 2024. While at the events, children will learn about the Fall Kill Creek, the plants and animals that live in the park, and how they can take care of the natural world in their own neighborhoods.

Lessons will be taught by Environmental Cooperative staff and trained Vassar students. This grant expands the Exploring Science outdoor education program, bringing together local organizations, educators, and the Vassar College community to inspire appreciation of nature and teach about the local ecology of the Hudson Valley.
