Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center Secures Grant from Art Bridges

With leadership from Amanda Potter, Putnam Assistant Director of Learning and Community Engagement, The Loeb has secured a grant from Art Bridges to support learning and engagement programming. This programming engages with the four works the Loeb is borrowing from Art Bridges: Jeffrey Gibson, Migration; Felix Gonzalez-Torres, ‘Untitled’ (L.A.); Kerry James Marshall, Lost Boys: AKA BB; and Nari Ward, Breathing Bars Diagonal Left.

The four programs include: a workshop for Loeb staff on Building Communities of Care: Trauma-Informed and Wellness Practices in the Museum; an interdisciplinary discussion on The Ethics of Appropriation, interrogating the use of cultural stereotypes in major modernist works such as Marsden Hartley’s Indian Composition in the Loeb’s collection; Breathing in History, a multi-day, in-depth exploration of history, identity, and representation centered on Nari Ward's Breathing Bars Diagonal Left, to be offered to the Poughkeepsie high school students participating in the 2023 summer program of a Poughkeepsie-based non-profit, Celebrating the African Spirit; and a digital capture of the perspectives and voices of the diverse audiences engaging with the What Now? (or Not Yet) exhibit.
