How Do You Say Bagel in Mohican? Screening and Discussion

Location: Taylor Hall, Room 203

What if everyone spoke Mohican?

How Do You Say Bagel in Mohican? (USA, 2023) explores the revitalization of the Mahican language and the relationship between language and identity formation. The screening will be preceded by Jan Müller’s short reel, Resonance of Words, and followed by a discussion with Müller and featured participant Brock Schreiber.

Müller is an artist living in the Poughkeepsie community. Schreiber belongs to the People of the Waters that are Never Still—the Mahican, or Mohican, nation originally based in the upper Hudson Valley—and lives in Wisconsin.

Sponsored by the Dean of the Faculty Office, American and Native American Studies Program, Department of Anthropology, Department of English, Department of Film, Department of History, and Media Studies Program.

This event is free and open to the public.
