Charles Steinhorn awarded a six-figure grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York

Charlie Steinhorn

Charles Steinhorn, Professor Emeritus and Research Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, was awarded his fourth six-figure grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York to undergird the ongoing STEM Teaching Experiences for Undergraduates (TEU) program in New York City, in partnership with the American Museum of Natural History and Barnard College.

Headquartered at Vassar for a decade under Dr. Steinhorn’s direction, the TEU program addresses the national shortage of quality STEM teachers, particularly in underserved communities, as well as the dearth of opportunity for secondary students in underrepresented groups to participate in STEM enrichment.

The TEU program also offers meaningful professional and leadership development for STEM teachers. Dr. Steinhorn’s newest grant—and Carnegie Corporation’s fourth six-figure contribution to Vassar—arrives as he and his collaborators aspire to scale the program nationally and further refine the innovative TEU model that launched in 2013 with the support of Math For America, and then advanced considerably with major support from the National Science Foundation.
