Second Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Breakfast

More than 150 members of the Vassar Community paid tribute to the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the college’s Second Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Breakfast. In addition, three members of the Vassar community received the college’s 2020 MLK Service Awards.

Alumnae/i and Parent Mentors Help Sophomores Envision Their Futures

At Vassar’s sixth annual Sophomore Career Connections, held on the weekend of January 17, 248 sophomores gained invaluable insights from 103 alums and parents who spent the weekend helping them envision their futures. The event was co-hosted by the Career Development Office and the Office of Alumnae/i Affairs and Development.

Vassar Has Some New Medieval Treasures

Vassar alumna Diana Pearson ’78 has donated more than 80 manuscripts and other material from her late husband’s rare book and manuscript collection to Special Collections at Thompson Library. Some students in a medieval history class spent an hour viewing one of the manuscripts, and more students and scholars will benefit from the generous donation in the future.

Students in a first-year writing seminar learn how modern X-ray technology helps art historians study paintings that are more than five centuries old.

Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement and Education event

The Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement and Education hosted a series of events on the Vassar campus this fall focusing on the impact of barriers, both physical and psychological, on people coping with forced migration and family separation.

Fourteen first-year students got a jump on their college careers this summer as members of the Summer Immersion in the Liberal Arts program sponsored by Vassar’s Engaged Pluralism Initiative (EPI). The young men and women, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college, spent four weeks on campus taking specially designed, credit-bearing courses, learning about resources the college offers, and taking part in service-based learning in the Poughkeepsie area.
