Study Abroad 101: What You Need to Know Now! Language Preparation, Application Process, and More

This session will give an overview of the benefits of language study and its value to a well-rounded liberal arts education and introduce study abroad opportunities around the world, which are available through Vassar programs in Madrid, Bologna, and Paris, or other approved programs in Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Students interested in studying abroad in a country with a language that they haven’t studied yet need to begin studying that language this fall. Hosted by faculty from language departments, the Assistant Dean for International Programs, Kerry Zuccaro, and Associate Director for International Programs, Isabel Hansen.

Pre-Health

This session will provide an overview of the requirements for preparing to apply to medical and other health professional schools. Hosted by members of the Pre-Med Advisory Committee and Associate Director of Pre-Health Advising, Lisa Pace.

Pre-Law

Learn what it means to be pre-law at Vassar, what you can do now to make yourself a great law school candidate, and how to take advantage of campus resources to help you succeed! Admission to law school remains competitive, and early preparation can make all the difference. Hosted by the Pre-law Advisor in Career Education, Nick Migliorino, and faculty Pre-law Advisor Taneisha Means (Political Science).

Pre-Engineering

This session will give an overview of the preparation requirements to apply for the Vassar-Dartmouth dual-degree engineering program. Hosted by Associate Dean of the College for Career Education, Stacy Bingham, and Associate Director of STEM Advising, Lisa Pace.

Education Certificate

  • 10:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
  • Maria Mitchell Observatory (OB), Room 212 (Dome Room)

Education Department faculty will give a short presentation about the requirements for becoming certified to teach at the elementary and secondary levels and answer any questions about the process.

Choral/Voice Lessons

  • 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  • Martel Recital Hall, Skinner Hall of Music

All students interested in singing in the choirs (Women’s Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Chamber Singers) or auditioning for voice lessons should attend one of these sessions. There will be a short presentation followed by Q&A.

Dance and Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre

Faculty members will give an overview of Dance courses, participation in Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre, VRDT audition information, and Dance major and correlate offerings.

Art and Architecture

All students currently pre-registered for Art 105, wishing to enroll, or just curious about Architecture and Art History at Vassar, are invited to attend.

English Department AP and General Information

  • 12:00 p.m.–12:30 p.m.
  • Sanders Classroom (SC) Auditorium (2nd Floor)

Susan Zlotnick, Chair of English, will explain policies and procedures for advanced course placement in English and provide a general introduction to the department. Students wishing to take a 200-level English course in their first year should attend this meeting. Students with questions about the department or the major are also encouraged to attend.

French + STEM: Discover Study Abroad Opportunities in France
