Plans for Summer 2022

The health and safety of everyone on campus is paramount, and we understand health to include not only the physical health, but also mental health and social well-being. Additionally, we are applying all the learning we have had since the start of the pandemic to provide the best and safest on-campus experience possible.

COVID-19 Testing for Students

Self-administered, rapid tests will be available for students through the College Center vending machine and at the ROC. When returning to campus and picking up keys, students must attest that they have had a negative COVID-19 test within the 24 hours before getting to campus.

Isolation

Students and employees, including faculty, who test positive for COVID-19 should contact Health Services immediately. Beginning Monday, May 30th, students who test positive will isolate in a single bedroom in a designated wing of Main House. Spaces designated for use only by students with COVID-19 will have appropriate signage. Students with COVID-19 will continue to order food through Grubhub. Employees should inform their supervisor that they are unable to report to work until cleared by Health Services.

Clearing Isolation

Health Services will clear students and employees using a symptom-based approach; a negative test is not required to be cleared as people may test positive after they are no longer infectious. Please follow the clinical guidance of Health Services.

Urgent Student Health Needs

Please call the CRC at (845) 437-5221. They can access the on-call nurse during regular business hours, or the EMT in the evenings, who can help provide COVID-19 testing and address other urgent health needs.

Masking

We will have voluntary masking on campus; however, faculty may require masking in classes or laboratories. Everyone is welcome to mask whenever preferred, and let us continue to support those who choose to wear masks as our campus policies evolve.

Dining

Operating on summer hours, Gordon Commons (GC) will have in-person dining with reduced densities (check your Vassar app for GC density in real time) and grab-and-go will remain available at the Retreat.

Campus Visitors

Visitors are allowed on campus; however, residence halls and campus buildings other than the Library, Francis Lehman Loeb Art Center, and the administrative areas of Main are on card swipe access and are only open to invited guests on a limited basis. It is the host’s responsibility to inform campus guests and visitors of campus requirements.

Campus Events/Meetings

Events are permitted. Hosts of events, including those with guests not from the Vassar community, may require masking and/or testing prior to the event. If anyone has questions about a specific event, please be in touch with the Dean of Faculty office (for faculty-led events) or Campus Activities (for other events).

Buildings

We expect that buildings including the gyms will be open on regular summer hours and accessible via card swipe.
