Forms of Exchange: Art of the Native Peoples from the Edward J. Guarino Collection

This catalogue showcases the skill and aesthetic brilliance of Native North American artists working in a variety of media. Drawn from an impressive private collection, and including both historic and contemporary material, the objects illuminate the important theme of the transformation of indigenous art forms under the influence of trade with non-native buyers. Each artwork displays the conditions of hybrid cultural production stemming from a dynamic social context. Organization and text resulted from the collaborative efforts of Vassar Professor Karen Lucic and her seminar students.
