Ukrainian born artist Larissa Tokmakova’s latest paintings will be on view at the Palmer Gallery from October 16 to November 23.

About the Artist: Larissa Tokmakova was born in Ukraine, studied painting in Moscow, and moved to New York in 1991. She currently teaches and chairs the art department at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, where she also lives and paints.

While making these paintings over the past several years, I listened to far too much news radio, and only when selecting the pieces for this show did I realize that they are, to a large degree, a record of my engagement with what I was hearing—artifacts of self-soothing, complex and tender, psychic ballast in a difficult world.” —Larissa Tokmakova
