Men’s Volleyball
The Brewers advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Division III Championships with victories over Nichols College and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Vassar, which entered the tournament ranked eighth in the country, defeated Nichols in four sets on April 19 and edged third-ranked Wentworth in five sets on April 20. Jacob Kim ’24, who was named a First Team All-American for the second straight year, had 13 kills and 21 assists. Vaughn Ramsey ’24 registered 12 kills in the win over Nichols. Tobias Clark ’25 served an ace to clinch the win over Wentworth. Ramsey had a career-high 21 kills, and Kim registered 15 kills, 29 assists, and 4 digs.
Vassar lost to New York University, 3-1, in the finals of the United Volleyball Conference Championships on April 14 at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers reached the finals with a 3-0 win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 13. Ramsey had 12 kills in the finals. Kim had 9 kills, 4 service aces, 10 assists, and 4 digs in the win over MIT.
Vassar blanked nationally ranked Springfield College on April 6 at Kenyon Hall. Kim celebrated Senior Day with 12 kills, 12 assists, and a career-high 9 blocks. Springfield entered the match ranked 10th in the country in Division III, while Vassar was ranked ninth.
Vassar clinched a share of the United Volleyball Conference title with a 3-1 victory over SUNY New Paltz on April 3 in Kenyon Hall. Ramsey led the Brewers with 12 kills, four digs and two service aces. Kim had 25 assists and 11 kills.
Third-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Vassar in straight sets on March 30 on the Stevens campus in Hoboken, NJ. Ramsey registered 15 kills. Billy Fan ’25 had six kills and six digs
Vassar defeated Misericordia University, 3-0, and Arcadia University, 3-1, on March 23 on the Arcadia campus in Glenside, PA. Kim had 11 kills in the win over Misericordia. Armaan Desai ’27 had 10 kills, 4 blocks, and 2 service aces in the victory over Arcadia.
Vassar swept a pair of matches on the campus of Monroe College in New Rochelle, NY on March 16. Payne Lounsbery ’25 registered 10 kills and 2 blocks in a 3-0 victory over Russell Sage College. Enzo Bertini ’27 had 9 kills in a 3-0 win over Monroe.
The Brewers dropped a pair of matches to Southern Virginia University, 3-0, and St. John Fisher University, 3-2, on March 2 on the St. John Fisher campus in Rochester, NY. Ramsey had 10 kills in the loss to Southern Virginia. Kim registered 14 kills and 18 assists in the loss to St. John Fisher.
Vassar defeated United Volleyball Conference rival Nazareth College in straight sets on March 1 on the campus of St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY. Kim had 9 kills, 17 assists, 2 service aces, and 2 digs.
Vassar posted 3-1 victories over Elmira College and Hobart College on February 24 in Kenyon Hall. Andrew Guaragno ’24 had 13 kills in the win over Elmira. Kim had a career-high 17 kills in the victory over Hobart.
The Brewers blanked Buffalo State on February 23 at Kenyon Hall. Ramsey had 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Vassar defeated New York University in straight sets on February 21 at Kenyon Hall. Kim had 9 kills and 16 assists.
Lasell University defeated Vassar in straight sets on February 16 on the Lasell campus in Newton, MA. Ramsey registered 11 kills.
Vassar won a pair of matches on February 17 on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Brewers edged MIT in five sets and swept Endicott College in three. Fan had 14 kills, 3 blocks and a service ace in the win over MIT.
Tristan Christofferson ’26 registered 11 kills in Vassar’s 3-0 win over Benedictine University on February 14 at Kenyon Hall.
Women’s Track and Field
Jahmilia Dennis ’26 and Haley Schoenegge ’27 earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships on March 9 in Virginia Beach, VA. Davis was 10th overall in the triple jump with a distance of 11.82 meters, a school record. Schoenegge was ninth in the mile run, finishing in 4:58.96.
Dennis won the triple jump and finished third in the 100-meter hurdles at the Trinity Invitational on April 20 on the Trinity College campus in Hartford, CT.
Schoenegge broke the school record in the 5,000-meter run on April 13 at the Bison Outdoor Classic on the campus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. Schoenegge posted a time of 16:32.59.
Vassar finished fourth in a 14-team field at the RPI Under the Lights meet on April 11 and 12 on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Ava Novak ’24 won the 100-meter dash and the long jump, and Dennis was victorious in the triple jump.
Schoenegge shattered the school record in the 1,500-meter run at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational in New London, CT on April 6. She won the race with a time of 4:37.56, eclipsing the previous mark of 4:39.07 set by Kelly Holmes ’13 in 2012.
Vassar finished third in a field of 16 teams at the Ramapo College Invitational March 29 and 30 in Mahwah, NJ. Schoenegge won the 5000-meter run. Amaavi Miriyagalla ’24 was second in the 10,000-meter run. Norah Reade ’27 and Sophia Henderson ’25 finished second and third, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Anika Mueller-Hickler ’26 finished third in the 1,500-meter run.
Dennis finished 12th overall in the triple jump at the All-Atlantic Track and Field Championships March 2 in Medford, MA. On the same day, Schoenegge broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:53.86. Dennis and Schoenegge both qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Dennis and Schoenegge paced Vassar to a fourth-place finish at the Liberty League Track and Field Indoor Championships on February 23 and 24 in Canton, NY. Dennis won the long jump for the second straight year with a distance of 11.79 meters, a school record. Schoenegge won the 3,000-meter run in 10:00.61 and finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:59.64, a new school record.
Vassar swept the top three spots in both the mile run and the 5,000-meter run at the West Point Tune-Up on February 17 on the campus of the United States Military Academy. In the 5,000, Acadia Helfand ’27 was first in 19:22.80, Cayley Swaim ’27 was second, and Lily Shimpach ’26 was third. Ava Novak won the long jump with a distance of 5.30 meters. Schoenegge won the mile in 5:08.19, and Maddie Busam ’26 won the 400-meter run in 1:05.60.
Men’s Track and Field
Vassar finished ninth in a 14-team field at the Trinity Invitational April 20 on the Trinity College campus in Hartford, CT. Tim Jacques ’24 was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.88.
Vassar finished eighth in a 14-team field at the RPI Under the Lights meet on April 11 and 12 on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Sean Miller ’27 was second in the 800-meter run.
Miles Takiguchi ’24 posted a career-best 4:10.29 in the 1,500-meter run at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational on April 6 in New London, CT. Takiguchi finished eighth in the race.
Vassar finished fourth in a 14-team field at the Ramapo College Invitational March 29 and 30 in Mahwah, NJ. Jose Magana ’25 won the 1,500-meter run in 3:59.31. Tim Buchan ’25 was second. Magana also won the 800-meter run in 1:56.94.
Vassar finished seventh at the Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships February 23 and 24 in Canton, NY. Takiguchi was fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:09.26. Jae Young Seo ’25 set a school record in the 60-meter hurled with a time of 9.14 seconds.
Magana won the mile run in 4:19.46 at the West Point Tune-Up on February 17 at the U.S. Military Academy. Buchan was first in the 1,000-meter run in 2:33.92.
Men’s Tennis
Vassar posted 7-2 wins over Union College and Skidmore College on April 20 and 21 at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. Jay Wong ’24 won his #1 singles match against Union, 6-4, 6-1, and teamed with Pedro Cattaruzzi ’26 for an 8-4 win in doubles. In the match against Skidmore, Fernando Bauermeister ’26 and Eugene Lee ’27 posted wins in singles and teamed up for a win in doubles.
Wong won his #1 singles match and teamed with Cattaruzzi for a win in doubles, pacing Vassar to a 7-2 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology April 14 on the RIT campus.
Vassar defeated Ithaca College, 6-3, on April 13 on the Ithaca (NY) campus. Wong posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory in #1 singles.
Vassar defeated the United States Coast Guard Academy, 6-3, on April 7 on the Academy campus in New London, CT. Henry Zhang ’27 won his #3 singles match, 6-4, 6-4 and teamed with Bauermeister for an 8-7 win in doubles.
Bauermeister paced Vassar to a 6-3 win over St. Lawrence University on March 30 at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. He won his #2 singles match, 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with Zhang for an 8-2 win in doubles
The University of Rochester edged Vassar, 5-4, on March 24 in Rochester, NY. Wong won his #1 singles match, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Brewers opened their Liberty League season with a 5-4 loss to Hobart College on March 23 on the Hobart campus in Geneva, NY. Lee posted wins in singles and doubles.
Vassar edged Bates College, 5-4, on March 20 at Walker Field House. Zhang won his #6 singles match, 6-1, 6-4, and teamed with Bauermeister ’26 for an 8-7 win in doubles.
Lee posted the only victory in Vassar’s 8-1 loss to Sewanee University on March 10 in Newport Beach, CA.
Nolan Kubiak ’26 posted wins in singles and doubles to lift Vassar to a 5-4 win over Chapman University on March 9. Kubiak won his singles match, 6-2, 6-3, and teamed with Ethan Mantell ’26 for an 8-7 win in doubles.
Vassar defeated Whittier College, 7-2, on March 8 in Whittier, CA. Wong won his #1 singles match, 6-3, 6-1.
Vassar edged Occidental University, 5-4, on March 5 in Los Angeles. Zhang won his singles match, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5, and teamed with Bauermeister for an 8-7 win in doubles.
The Brewers defeated California Lutheran University, 6-3, on March 4 on the Cal Lutheran campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. Lee won his #3 singles match, 6-2, 6-1, and teamed with Cattaruzzi for an 8-5 win in doubles.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology defeated Vassar, 7-2 on February 17 on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA. Mantell and Wong posted the Vassar wins.
Women’s Tennis
The Brewers (14-3, 7-0 Liberty League) took over sole possession of first place in the Liberty League standings on April 21, edging Skidmore College, 5-4, at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. Maddie Kirby ’27 clinched the victory with a 7-6, 6-4 win at #5 singles.
Vassar won 17 of 18 matches against Liberty League rivals Bard College and Union College on April 19 and 20 at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. The Brewers blanked Bard, 9-0, and defeated Union, 8-1.
Vassar won Liberty League matches at Ithaca College and Rochester Institute of Technology by 8-1 margins on April 13 and 14. Macey Dowd ’25 won her #2 singles match against Lauren Rodriguez of Ithaca, 6-2, 6-0. Ananya Krishnan ’26 won her #3 singles match and teamed with Elyse Duley ’25 for an 8-0 win in doubles.
The Brewers edged St. Thomas Aquinas College, 4-3, on April 7 at the Richard L. Cretella Center. Krishnan won her singles match, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with Duley for a 7-6 win in doubles.
Vassar cruised to an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence University on March 30 at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center. Erin McCusker ’26 won her #1 singles match, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Dowd for an 8-6 win in #1 doubles.
The Brewers defeated the University of Rochester, 8-1, on March 24 in Rochester, NY. Iris Li ’26 won her #3 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Maddie Kirby ’27 for an 8-4 win in doubles.
Vassar blanked Liberty League rival William Smith College, 9-0, on March 23 on the William Smith campus in Geneva, NY. McCusker won her #1 singles match, 6-3, 6-2, and teamed with Dowd for an 8-5 victory in doubles.
Vassar blanked Whittier College, 9-0, on March 9 on the Whittier, CA campus. McCusker won her #1 singles match, 6-0, 6-2, and teamed with Dowd for an 8-1 win in doubles.
California Institute of Technology defeated Vassar, 7-2, on March 5 on the CalTech campus in Pasadena, CA. McCusker eked out a win at #1 singles with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker. Kirby won her #4 singles match, 7-5, 6-4.
Dowd won her singles match and teamed with McCusker for a win in doubles as Vassar defeated Westmont College, 6-1, on March 4 in Santa Barbara, CA.
Vassar opened its annual West Coast trip by defeating Occidental College, 8-1, on March 3 in Los Angeles. McCusker won her #1 singles match with a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker.
The Brewers opened the spring season by dropping a pair of close matches on the Swarthmore (PA) College campus. Swarthmore defeated Vassar, 5-4, on February 23, and Mary Washington University edged the Brewers by the same score on the 24th. Dowd won her #2 singles match and teamed with McCusker for a win in doubles against Swarthmore. McCusker won her #1 singles match against Mary Washington.
Women’s Lacrosse
The Brewers fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 14-6, on April 20 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Lola Wright ’24 scored a goal and added an assist.
Ithaca College defeated Vassar, 18-3, on April 19 on the Ithaca NY campus. Kali Ringler ’25 scored twice.
Union College defeated Vassar, 16-8, on April 13 on Weinberg Turf Field. Emilia DiLiberto ’27 scored four goals.
Vassar defeated Bard College, 16-4, on April 10 on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Maeve Faigel ’27 had three goals and an assist.
The Brewers snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 17-11 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on April 5 on Weinberg Turf Field. Tess Billings ’26 and DiLiberto each scored four goals.
Vassar fell to Skidmore College, 15-4, on March 30 on Weinberg Turf Field. DiLiberto scored a pair of goals for the Brewers.
St. Lawrence University defeated Vassar, 14-7, on March 24 in Canton, NY. Ringler scored three goals.
The Brewers opened their Liberty League season with a 14-9 loss to Clarkson University on March 16 on Weinberg Turf Field. Billings scored three goals.
DiLiberto scored the first hat trick of her college career in Vassar’s 14-4 loss to Juniata College on March 11 in Huntingdon, PA.
Vassar fell in overtime to Lebanon Valley College on March 9 in Annville, PA. Reilly Mulcahy ’25 and Emma Torkelson ’25 each scored three goals.
The Brewers notched their first win of the season, defeating Farmingdale State College, 14-6, on February 27 on Weinberg Turf Field. Faigel and Sigrid Fredlund ’27 each scored three goals.
Vassar opened the season with an 18-14 loss to Drew University on February 24 on the Drew campus in Madison, NJ. Ringler, Faigel, and Billings each tallied three times.
Men’s Lacrosse
Union College defeated Vassar, 19-9, on April 20 on the Union campus in Schenectady, NY. Baker Morton ’26 and Nate Johnson ’26 each scored twice for the Brewers.
The Brewers defeated Skidmore College, 10-7, on April 13 on Weinberg Turf Field. Gavin Arcuri ’27 and Troy Santise ’24 each scored two goals and added two assists.
Solomon Hess ’24 scored with four seconds left in the fourth quarter, lifting Vassar to a 13-12 victory over Stockton University on April 10 on Weinberg Turf Field.
Vassar fell to St. Lawrence University, 14-5, on April 6 on the St. Lawrence campus in Canton, NY. T.J. Carl ’26 scored a pair of goals.
Nationally ranked Rochester Institute of Technology defeated Vassar, 30-4, on March 30 on the RIT campus. Ian Zumpano ’24 scored two goals and added an assist.
The Brewers notched their first Liberty League win of the season on March 23, defeating Ithaca College, 11-7, on Weinberg Turf Field. Santise scored three goals and assisted on three others.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, ranked seventh in the country, defeated Vassar, 18-10, on March 16 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Carl scored five goals.
Carl scored five goals in Vassar’s 18-9 victory over the University of Massachusetts-Boston on March 10 in Georgetown, TX. Goalkeeper Drew Quinn ’25 had 16 saves.
Zumpano and Colin Patchet ’26 each scored three goals in Vassar’s 18-12 victory over Southwestern University on March 7 on the Southwestern campus in Georgetown, TX. Santise had four assists.
Zumpano and Nate Johnson ’26 each had hat tricks in the Brewers’ 18-4 victory over Emerson College on March 2 on Weinberg Turf Field.
The Brewers defeated Keene State University, 14-9, in their home opener on February 28 on Weinberg Turf Field. Gavin Arcuri ’27 scored four goals, and Hess forced six turnovers.
Swarthmore College defeated Vassar, 21-11 on February 24 on the Swarthmore (PA) campus. Zumpano and Santise each scored a pair of goals.
Vassar opened the season with a 17-8 victory over Lasell University on February 21 on the Lasell campus in Newton, MA. Santise scored two goals and assisted on six others. Carl scored three goals.
Baseball
Utica University defeated Vassar, 11-2, on April 21 on Prentiss Field. Jensen Bergman ’26 had three hits and an RBI.
The Brewers swept a doubleheader against Utica on Prentiss Field on April 20 by scores of 5-4 and 8-2. Bradley Markind ’25 singled in the bottom of the eighth inning of the first game and scored the winning run on a throwing error. Ty Murray ’24 had three hits and two RBIs in the second game.
Mount Saint Mary College posted a 13-6 victory over Vassar on April 17 on Prentiss Field. Nick Greenhawt ’24 hit a three-run home run.
The Brewers swept a doubleheader against Ithaca College, winning the first game, 16-9, and the second, 10-7. Birch Herring-Jackson ’25 broke a 9-9 tie in the seventh inning of the first game with an RBI single. Jack Silvera ’24 and Murray each knocked in two runs in the second game.
Vassar defeated New York University, 11-7, on April 10 on Prentiss Field. Michael Lee ’25 had four hits, and Bergman knocked in three runs.
Vassar and Skidmore split a doubleheader on April 7. Skidmore won the first game, 14-5, and Vassar won the second in 11 innings, 10-9, on an RBI single by Murray.
Skidmore College3 edged Vassar, 4-3, on April 5 at Prentiss Field. Reid Lapekas ’24 had three hits.
Vassar dropped two of three games against Union College on March 29 and 30. The Brewers lost by a score of 11-9 on the Union campus on March 29 and split a doubleheader at Prentiss field the next day, winning 14-5 and losing 15-5. Marc Milano ’25 had a triple and 5 RBIs in the victory.
The Brewers split a doubleheader with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 25, losing the first game, 3-1, but winning the second, 7-3. Silvera had two doubles and two RBIs in the victory.
Vassar opened the Liberty League season with a 9-4 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 22 on Prentiss Field. Daniel Laderman ’25 knocked in three runs with a single and a double.
Vassar dropped three games to Lewis and Clark College on March 15 and 16 in Portland, OR. The Brewers managed just one hit, a single by Lapekas, in a 12-1 loss on March 15. Lapekas had the lone RBI in a 5-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on March 16. Jaden Millstein ’24 had two hits and two RBIs in a 11-6 loss in the second game.
Vassar fell to host Puget Sound University, 12-7 on March 13 in Tacoma, WA. Bergman knocked in a pair of runs with a triple.
Vassar split a doubleheader with Whitman College on March 12 in Walla Walla, WA. The Brewers lost the first game, 19-8, but rallied to win the second, 12-10. Noah Stockman ’27 hit a three-run home run in the first game. Laderman broke a 9-9 tie in the eighth inning of the second game with a three-run home run.
George Fox University defeated Vassar, 6-2, on the George Fox campus on March 9. Starting pitcher Addison Lee ’26 gave up two runs in six innings.
Vassar lost both games of a doubleheader against George Fox University on March 8 in Newberg, OR. The Brewers lost the first game, 3-2, and the second game, 13-2. Lapekas had two hits and an RBI in the first game. Stockman had an RBI double in the second game.
Vassar outlasted SUNY Purchase, 12-11, in 11 innings on March 4 on the Purchase NY campus. Bergman was 4-for-6 with two doubles and five RBIs.
Vassar opened the season with a 9-1 loss to New York University on March 1 in New York City. Murray knocked in the lone Brewers’ run with an RBI groundout in the first inning.
Women’s Rugby
Maggie Nealis ’27 scored a pair of tries in Vassar’s 41-14 victory over Mount Holyoke College on April 13 at Vassar Farm.
Vassar finished the Tri-State 7s tournament with a 1-3 record on April 7 on the campus of Stony Brook (NY) University. The Brewers defeated Rutgers University, 10-5, but lost to The College of New Jersey, 24-7; Montclair State University, 20-10, and Fairfield University, 15-10. Leah Dourmashkin ’27 and Jude Robinson ’26 scored tries in the win over Rutgers.
Vassar rolled over the University of Massachusetts, 58-0, on March 31 at Vassar Farm. Danny White ’25 and Lola Yost ’26 each scored a pair of tries.
Zoe Lynch ’25 scored a pair of tries and kicked two conversions in Vassar’s 34-15 win over Hudson Valley Community College on March 24 at Vassar Farm.
Seven players scored tries in Vassar’s 64-7 victory over the University of Virginia on March 10 on the UVA campus in Charlottesville, VA. Emma Niehaus ’27 and Rebecca Middlen ’25 each scored twice, and Lynch kicked seven conversions.
Men’s Rugby
Vassar posted four wins at the Vassar Invitational 7’s tournament on April 14 at Vassar Farm. The Brewers defeated the Sacred Heart University A squad, 17-7, the Sacred Heart B squad, 22-0, the University of Albany A squad, 66-0, and the Albany B squad, 29-0.
The Brewers lost to Fairfield University in the finals of the Tri-State 7s tournament on April 7 on the campus of Stony Brook University in Hempstead, NY. Vassar reached the finals with victories over Drew University, Montclair State University, SUNY Maritime, and Hofstra University, but fell to Fairfield, 19-7. Olly Skeet-Browning ’24 scored a pair of tries in the semifinal win over Hofstra.
Vassar posted victories over Bard College, 41-0, and SUNY Oneonta, 47-7, at the Hudson Valley 7s tournament on the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. T.J. Usher ’27 and Kiran Mullen ’26 each scored two tries in the win over Bard. Will Smith ’27 had a pair of tries in the victory over Oneonta.
The Brewers split four games at the Vassar Open 7s tournament on March 23 at Vassar Farm. Vassar defeated the SUNY New Paltz A squad, 29-7, and the New Paltz B team, 26-5. The Brewers fell to Seton Hall University and Fairfield University by scores of 24-7.
Women’s Golf
Vassar finished 15th in a 17-team field at the Jack Leaman Invitational on April 20 and 21 in South Hadley, MA. Olivia Pocat ’27 posted a pair of 82s.
Vassar finished fourth in a six-team field at the Vassar Invitational March 30 at Casperkill Golf Club. Teaen Sweet ’27 carded an 80, and Sufana Noorwez ’24 shot an 83.
Women’s Rowing
Vassar’s Novice 4 finished fourth at the New York State Championships on April 20 in Troy NY. Members of the crew were Tessa Locke ’27, Frances Dunn ’27, Ava Zumpano ’27 and Lauren Gracie ’27, guided by coxswain Celeste Hall ’27.
Vassar’s Varsity 8 finished third in a six-boat field at the Skidmore Sprints April 7 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the crew were Jaclyn Narleski ’24, Elsie McKendry ’26, Sitota Blomquist ’26, Posey Whidden ’25, Isabella Zumbolo ’26, Maria Mitchell ’24, Sarah Dumaresq ’24, Bridgette Nally ’26, and coxswain Taylor Frazier ’26.
Men’s Rowing
Vassar’s Varsity 4 finished fourth in a six-boat field at the New York State Championships on April 20 in Troy, NY. Members of the crew were Patrick Horiszny ’26, Willem Doherty ’25, Hogan Flechtner ’27, Gabriel Leonard ’27 and coxswain Ellie Walsh ’25.
Vassar’s Varsity 8 finished third in a four-boat field at the Skidmore Sprints on April 7 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the crew were: Alex Roth ’24, Robert Gee ’26, Gage Karlin ’24, Hogan Flechtner ’27, Jasper Piermarini ’26, Ben Vinson ’25, Trygve Aarestad ’26, Henry France ’26, and coxswain Jean Fassler ’24.
Women’s Basketball
Washington and Lee University defeated Vassar, 68-61, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III playoffs on the Washington and Lee campus in Lexington, VA. The Brewers trailed at halftime, 34-26, and shaved the lead to five points several times in the second half but could not overcome the deficit. Sierra McDermed ’26 led Vassar with 25 points.
Tova Gelb ’25 scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Vassar to the Liberty League championship with a 44-32 win over Skidmore College on February 25 in the Athletics and Fitness Center. Vassar’s stifling defense limited Skidmore to just 11 field goals on 58 shots. McDermed scored 13 points, and Naiya Kurnik ’26 added 7 points and eight rebounds.
The Brewers advanced to the finals of the Liberty League championship with a 64-53 win over Union College on February 23 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Gelb led all Vassar scorers with 20 points. McDermed scored 17.
Vassar finished the regular season by defeating Ithaca College, 66-59, on February 17 on the Ithaca NY campus. Tova Gelb ’25 paced the Brewers with 22 points. The Brewers captured the Liberty League regular season title with a 17-1 record.
William Smith College snapped the Brewers’ 21-game winning streak on February 16, edging Vassar 49-48, on the William Smith campus in Geneva, NY. Vassar connected on just 19 of 57 shots from the field and only 3 of 22 from beyond the three-point line. Julia Harvey ’25 led Vassar with 16 points.
Men’s Basketball
Vassar (10-15, 8-10 Liberty League) closed out the season with a 79-78 victory over Ithaca College on February 17 on the Ithaca, NY campus. Avery Lee ’27 led the Brewers’ scorers with 18 points.
Hobart College defeated Vassar, 76-63 on February 16, knocking the Brewers out of contention for a Liberty League playoff berth. Shea Fitzgerald ’27 scored 20 points.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Vassar finished fourth in a ten-team field at the Liberty League Championships February 21-24 on the campus of Ithaca College. Addie Wiener ’26 won the 500-yard freestyle, and finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle. The team of Sarah Quintana ’24, Anna Little ’27, Bella Rippon ’26, and Abigail McLaughlin ’26 posted a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Rippon was second in the 200-yard backstroke.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
The Brewers placed seventh in a ten-team field at the Liberty League Championships February 21-24 at Ithaca College. Lucas Jauregui ’27 set school records in the 50-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke. The team of Jauregui, Ricky Kurosawa ’26, Sam Deluca ’26, and Hayden Ehrenfeld ’25 finished fourth overall in the 200-yard medley relay.
Women’s Fencing
The epee squad of Olivia Barnes ’25, Katrina Zeng ’27, Naomi Hirsch ’25, Vanessa Mark ’26, and Aanya Mukherjee ’26 finished fifth in a 17-team field at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Championships on February 24 in Cambridge, MA. Zeng had three wins in the final round.
Vassar finished fifth in the Eastern Women’s Fencing Conference championships on February 18 in Madison, NJ. The Brewers defeated City College of New York, 24-3, and Haverford College, 17-10, but lost to Denison University, 21-6, Johns Hopkins University, 19-8, and Wellesley College, 20-7, in the preliminary rounds. Vassar posted a 14-12 win over Drew University in the fifth-place match. Barnes and Zeng were named to the EWFC All-Conference Team. Hunter Grogan ’24 was named to the EWFC’s Woman of the Year Team.
Vassar lost a pair of matches on February 14 in New York City, falling to New York University, 19-8, and Columbia University, 17-10. Zeng won all three of her bouts in epee against NYU. Zoe North ’27 and Nicole Ezell ’25 each posted two wins in foil against Columbia.
Men’s Fencing
Vassar’s foil squad of Benjamin Lee ’24, Brady Traugot ’25, and Isaiah Kim ’26 was second overall, and the epee squad was third at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Championships on February 24 in Cambridge, MA. The epee team of Brian Li ’26, Eli Wiese ’25, and Boxiong Du ’26 finished third.
New York University and Columbia University defeated Vassar on February 14 at the George Kolombatovich Historical Meet in New York City. Weise had two ins in epee against NYU. Lee was 3-0 in foil against Columbia.
Women’s Squash
Vassar (9-13) edged Mount Holyoke, 5-4, but lost to Connecticut College and Haverford College by 9-0 scores in the Collegiate Squash Association tournament in Philadelphia on February 16 and 17. Vassar’s top four players earned victories in the win over Mount Holyoke. #1 Anna Lee ’24 defeated her opponent in straight sets, 11-8, 11-2, and 11-3.
Men’s Squash
Vassar (7-12) defeated Fordham University, 6-3, but lost to Wesleyan University, 9-0, and Haverford College, 7-2, at the Collegiate Squash Association tournament February 17 and 18 in Philadelphia. #1 Jay Vashisht ’27 defeated his Fordham opponent, 13-11, 13-11 and 11-7.
