Hayden Baranker ’24 (bottom row, #16) brought his lacrosse teammates together to shave their heads on behalf of the Hope Street Foundation, a nonprofit co-founded by his older brother that raises money for cancer patients and their families. The team raised a total of $38,000 this year—all of which will go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Go Brewers!

Men’s Lacrosse

The Brewers lost to Liberty League rival Ithaca College, 15-7, April 9 on Gordon Field. Troy Santise ’24 had a goal and two assists.

Connor Deehan ’22 scored the winning goal 3:30 into overtime as Vassar defeated Skidmore College, 16-15, at Gordon Field. Logan Hyde ’22 had three goals and an assist.

Rochester Institute of Technology scored 10 goals in the first quarter and went on to defeat Vassar, 24-13, March 26 on the RIT campus. Ian Zumpano ’24 scored three goals for the Brewers and assisted on another.

Dan Negron ’24 scored with 1:51 remaining in overtime to lift Vassar to a 10-9 victory over Merchant Marine Academy March 23 in Kings Point, NY. It was Negron’s fourth goal of the game. Zumpano scored twice.

Vassar lost to Liberty League rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 22-9, March 19 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Riley Olds ’23 scored a pair of goals for the Brewers.

Olds scored five goals and assisted on four others in Vassar’s 18-10 win over Nichols College March 14 in Whittier, CA.

Santise scored at 2:43 of overtime to propel Vassar to a 13-12 victory over Whittier College March 12 on the Whittier, CA, campus. Zumpano scored three goals.

Zumpano scored four goals and assisted on another in Vassar’s 15-8 win over Emerson College March 5 at Weinberg Turf Field. Logan Hyde ’22 had two goals and two assists.

Keene State College scored 2:30 into overtime to edge the Brewers, 10-9, March 1 at Weinberg Turf Field. Olds, Zumpano, and James Nicholas ’23 each scored twice for Vassar.

Swarthmore College defeated Vassar, 16-4, February 26 on the Swarthmore (PA) campus. Santise scored twice.

Vassar opened the season with a 15-12 win over Montclair (NJ) State University February 22 on Gordon Field. Santise had four goals and an assist. Olds scored three goals and assisted on two.

Women’s Lacrosse

Kali Ringler ’25 and Maddy Kretten ’23 each scored a goal in Vassar’s 19-2 loss to Ithaca College April 9 on the Ithaca, NY, campus.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute scored five of the first six goals of the game and went on to defeat Vassar, 17-8, April 8 on the RPI campus in Troy, NY. Emma Torkelson ’25 scored three goals. Annie Uyeki ’23 and Ashley Roberts ’22 each scored twice.

Clarkson University defeated Vassar, 15-5, April 2 on Weinberg Turf Field. Kateri Sanseviro ’23 scored twice for the Brewers.

Vassar fell to Liberty League rival Skidmore College, 13-6, March 30 on Weinberg Turf Field. Kretten scored four goals and assisted on another.

A fourth-quarter rally fell just short as Vassar lost to the University of Rochester, 17-15, March 27 on the Rochester, NY, campus. Kretten scored five goals.

Roberts scored four goals to lift the Brewers to a 14-11 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology March 26 on the RIT campus. 

The University of Chicago scored six goals in the opening quarter and went on to defeat Vassar, 14-9, March 21 at Weinberg Turf Field. Ringler and Reilly Mulcahy ’25 each had two goals and an assist.

Eight players scored at least one goal in Vassar’s 20-4 victory over Manhattanville College March 15 on the Manhattanville campus in Purchase, NY. Sanseviro scored the first three goals of the game and finished with seven. Mulcahy scored four goals, and Ringler scored three.

Babson College defeated Vassar, 15-5, March 6 on the Babson campus in Babson Park, MD. Sanseviro scored four goals.

Roberts scored the winning goal with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Brewers wedged the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 10-9, on March 5 at Weinberg Turf Field. Kretten and Uyeki each scored three goals.

Drew University defeated Vassar, 17-11, February 26 on the Drew campus in Madison, NJ. Roberts had three goals and two assists. Livia Shine ’24 and Yael Gelman ’24 each scored twice.

Men’s Basketball

Vassar (18-9, 11-6 Liberty League) fell to Worcester (MA) Polytechnic Institute, 77-58, in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament March 4 on the WPI campus. It was the Brewers’ first-ever appearance in the tournament. Ethan Ellis ’23 led Vassar scorers with 11 points. Avni Mustafaj ’23 and Jack Rothenberg ’23 each added eight.

Women’s Basketball

The Brewers (17-8, 16-2 Liberty League) finished the season with an 80-63 loss to St. Lawrence University in the Liberty League semifinals on February 26 on the campus of Ithaca College. Sarah Gillooly ’22 led all Vassar scorers with 16 points. Dani Douglas ’22 had 15, and Julia Harvey ’25 added 14.

Men’s Volleyball

Vassar (18-6, 5-2 United Volleyball Conference) lost to St. John Fisher College in four sets in the semifinals of the United Volleyball Conference playoffs April 9 on the campus of SUNY New Paltz. Andrew Kim ’23 and Adam Gulick ’23 each registered 16 kills. The Brewers defeated Elmira College in four sets in the opening round of the tournament April 8. Kim had 18 kills.

Vassar closed out the regular season with 3-0 victories over SUNY Poly and Baruch College April 2 at Kenyon Hall. Andrew Kim registered 13 kills and 11 digs in the win over SUNY Poly. Joe Hendrickson ’22 had 12 kills in the match against Baruch.

Vaughn Ramsey ’24 registered a career-high 19 kills in Vassar’s 3-2 victory over Elms College March 30 at Kenyon Hall. Hendrickson had nine kills and seven blocks.

SUNY New Paltz defeated Vassar in four sets March 26 at Kenyon Hall. The Brewers won the first set, 25-22, but lost the next three by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-16. Gulick had 11 kills and two blocks.

Gulick registered 14 kills and a service ace to lead Vassar to a 3-0 win over Marymount College March 20 in Arlington, VA. Gavin van Beveren ’23 had 11 kills.

Stevenson University defeated Vassar in four sets March 17 on the Stevenson (MD) campus. Andrew Kim registered 17 kills. Van Beveren had 10 kills, seven blocks, and two service aces.

The Brewers split a pair of matches on the campus of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, losing to the hosts on March 4 and defeating Nazareth College on March 5. St. John Fisher won the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-15, but the Brewers won the third, 25-20. St. John Fisher closed out the match with a 27-25 in the fourth set. Andrew Kim had 19 kills. Van Beveren had 16 kills in the four-set win over Nazareth.

Vassar defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering in straight sets March 1 at Kenyon Hall. Andrew Kim had 11 kills, and Gulick had nine kills, one block, and one service ace.

Vassar fell in five sets to top-ranked Springfield College and swept Illinois Institute of Technology on February 26 at Kenyon Hall. Andrew Kim registered 20 kills in the loss to Springfield. Ramsey had six kills and seven service aces in the win over IIT.  The Brewers defeated ninth-ranked New York University in straight sets February 25 at Kenyon Hall. Andrew Kim had 12 kills. Gulick registered nine kills and two service aces. Jacob Kim ’24 had 33 assists and three aces.

Baseball

Vassar split a doubleheader at Union College in Schenectady, NY, on April 10, losing the first game, 8-5, and winning the second, 7-2. Adam Talwalkar ’23 homered in the first game. Nick Greenhawt ’23 drove in three runs with a double and a home run in the second game. Cole Eggleston ’23, Ty Langford ’22, and Joe Sabo ’24 combined to hold union to just five hits and one earned run.

Four Vassar pitchers combined to give up just five hits and one earned run in the Brewers’ 12-4 victory over Mount Saint Mary College April 5 at Prentiss Field. Bryce Grathwohl ’23 pitched three scoreless innings and was credited with the win. Greenhawt homered twice.

Vassar lost both ends of a doubleheader at the University of Rochester April 2 by scores of 7-4 and 6-3. Sam Brinster ’22 hit a two-run home run in the first game. Ezra Caspi ’23 had an RBI double in the second game.

Grathwohl stroked a two-run double during Vassar’s 11-run rally in the second inning, and the Brewers cruised to a 14-3 victory over Old Westbury College March 30 at Prentiss Field. Jaden Millstein ’24 tripled and drove in three runs.

Vassar and St. Lawrence University traded one-run victories March 26 and 27 at Prentiss Field. St. Lawrence won the first game of a doubleheader March 26, 9-8 in 11 innings, and the Brewers won the second game, 11-10. St. Lawrence edged the Brewers, 6-5, on March 27. Millstein hit a three-run home run in Vassar’s win.

The Brewers lost a doubleheader to Lebanon Valley College March 20 on the Lebanon Valley campus in Annville, PA. Ty Murray ’24 had a two-run single in the first game, but Vassar fell by a score of 6-4. In the second game, Murray tied the score in the ninth with a two-run homer, but Lebanon Valley won the game in the 10th, 7-6.

Andrew Kanelis ’23 homered and drove in five runs to propel the Brewers to a 14-13 win over Susquehanna University March 19 in Annville, PA. Brinster had four hits and three RBIs.

Reid Lapekas ’24 hit a two-run double in the ninth inning that put the Brewers ahead for good in a 12-9 victory over SUNY Canton March 14 in Davenport, FL. Greenhawt had four hits.

The Brewers split a doubleheader with Endicott College March 13 in Auburndale, FL, winning the first game, 7-6, and losing the second, 3-2. Millstein knocked in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener. Kanelis hit a two-run home run. Murray had a pair of singles in the second game.

Vassar defeated Lakeland College, 10-4, March 12 in Auburndale, FL. Grathwohl broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the first with a single and Greenhawt followed with a two-run double, and the Brewers led the rest of the way. 

The Brewers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead but lost to Trine University, 16-6, March 9 in Auburndale, FL. Millstein tripled and homered and drove in two runs.

LaRoche University broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the sixth inning and defeated Vassar, 10-6, March 8 in Auburndale, FL. Kanelis singled, doubled, and drove in two runs for the Brewers.

The Brewers split a doubleheader with Wentworth College on March 7 in Auburndale, FL. Vassar lost the opener, 4-2, but won the second game, 6-3. Lapekas homered and singled in the first game. Brinster gave up just one run and three hits in four innings to notch the win in the nightcap. Millstein and Murray homered.

Vassar opened the season with a 7-1 loss to Cornell College March 6 in Auburndale, FL. Caspi had two hits and scored Vassar’s only run on a wild pitch.

Women’s Fencing

Rose Parker ’22 finished 16th overall in epee competition at the NCAA Northeast Regionals March 13 at Walker Field House. Parker posted a total of seven victories. Zoe Tolbert ’22 was 23rd in foil.

Vassar finished fifth in a 15-team field at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference championships February 26 in Waltham, MA. Zoe Tolbert ’22 finished second overall in foil. Olivia Barnes ’25 and Parker finished sixth and tenth, respectively, in epee.

Men’s Fencing

Benjamin Lee ’24 finished 18th overall in foil competition at the NCAA Northeast Regionals March 13 at Walker Field House. Jack Plumer ’23 was 22nd in epee.

The Brewers finished fifth in a 12-team field at the Northeast Intercollegiate Fencing Conference championships in Waltham, MA. Plumer was eighth overall in epee, and Eli Weise ’25 was 11th. Lee finished ninth in foil, and Conor Travaglione ’23 was ninth in saber.

Women’s Squash

Vassar defeated Chatham University but lost to Haverford College and Mount Holyoke College at the College Squash Association D Division Championships February 25-27 at Tufts University in Medford, MA. Nicole Pihlstrom ’22 won her matches at No. 3 in the win over Chatham and the loss to Mount Holyoke. Olivia Berkson ’24 also posted wins against Chatham and Mount Holyoke at No. 4.

Men’s Tennis

Vassar edged New York University, 5-4, April 10 at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY. Matthew Yee ’22 won his No. 2 singles match, 7-5, 6-1, and teamed with Arun Guruswamy ’24 for an 8-7 win in No. 3 doubles.

The Brewers blanked Ithaca College, 9-0, April 9 on Josselyn Courts. Jay Wong ’24 posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win in No. 1 singles.

Benjamin Almquist ’24 posted Vassar’s only win in an 8-1 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute April 2 in Latham, NY. Almquist won his No. 2 singles match, 6-4, 6-4. 

Wong posted wins in singles and doubles as Vassar edged the United States Coast Guard Academy, 5-4, March 26 on the Academy campus in New London, CT. Wong teamed with Almquist to post an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles. Wong won his No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-1. 

Vassar defeated Whittier College, 8-1, March 12 on the Whittier (CA) campus. Yee won a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles, splitting the first two sets 7-6 and winning the tiebreaker 11-9.

Occidental College defeated the Brewers, 6-3, March 11 in Los Angeles, CA. Wong won his singles match, 6-4, 6-3, and teamed with Almquist to post an 8-7 win in doubles.

The doubles team of Mihajlo Ivanovic ’22 and Guruswamy posted the lone victory in Vassar’s 8-1 loss to the University of Redlands March 9 in Redlands, CA.

Chapman University defeated Vassar, 7-2, March 8 in Orange, CA. Arnav Agostino ’25 posted the Brewers’ only win in singles competition.

The Brewers blanked Bard College, 9-0, February 27 at Walker Field House. Wong won his No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Almquist to post an 8-0 win in doubles.

The College of New Jersey edged Vassar, 4-4, February 26 on the TCNJ campus in Hopewell, NJ. Wong won his No. 1 singles match, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Ivanovic and Guruswamy posted the Brewers’ only doubles win.

Women’s Tennis

Sophie Shen ’24 clinched a 5-4 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a win in No. 3 singles April 9 on the RPI campus in Latham, NY. Macey Dowd ’25 won her No. 2 singles match and teamed with Tatum Blalock ’23 to post a win in No. 2 doubles.

Vassar blanked Ithaca College, 9-0, April 2 on Josselyn Courts. Blalock won her No. 1 singles match, 7-6, 6-3, and teamed with Dowd to post an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles.

Shen posted wins in singles and double in Vassar’s 7-2 victory over St. Lawrence University March 27. She won her No. 3 singles match, 6-0, 6-2. She teamed with Melina Stavropoulos ’22 for an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles.

The Brewers blanked Rochester Institute of Technology, 9-0, March 26 on the RIT campus. Blalock won her No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-2. Shen and Stavropoulos posted an 8-1 win in their No. 1 doubles match.

Dowd won her singles match and teamed with Blalock to capture her doubles match in Vassar’s 6-3 win over Chapman University March 12 in Orange, CA.

California Institute of Technology snapped Vassar’s six-game winning streak with a 9-0 victory March 9 in Pasadena, CA. Shen posted a 6-4 win in the first set of her No. 3 singles match but lost the second, 7-5, and fell in the tiebreaker, 10-2.

Vassar ran its winning streak to six matches with a 7-2 victory over Occidental College March 8 in Los Angeles. Stavropoulos won her No. 4 singles match and teamed with Shen for an 8-7 win in No. 1 doubles. 

Dowd won her singles and doubles matches in Vassar’s 5-4 win over California Lutheran University March 7 in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Blalock won her No. 1 singles match and teamed with Dowd to win in No. 2 doubles in Vassar’s 9-0 win over Mount Holyoke College Feb. 27 at Walker Field House.

Men’s Track and Field

Vassar set the tone for the day with a victory in the 4x100 relay and went on to finish first in an eight-team field at the Vassar Invitational April 8 at Gordon Field. Members of the team were Ryan Mazurkiewicz ’22, Tucker Quinlan ’23, Darnell Worley ’24, and Sam Lytel ’24. Jack Casalino ’22 won the 1,500-meter run in 3:57.83.

Vassar finished seventh in an 18-team field at the Ramapo (NJ) Invitational April 1 and 2 in Mahwah, NJ. Aidan Mayer ’24 finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.45. Worley was fourth in the triple jump and was a member of the 4x100 relay team that posted a fourth-place finish. 

Casalino won the 10,000-meter run at the Monmouth Invitational March 25 in Long Branch, NJ. Miles Takiguchi ’23 finished third. Simon LaClair ’24 finished 14th overall in the 800-meter run on March 26.

Vassar swept the top three spots in the 5,000-meter run March 19 at the Washington and Lee Invitational March 19 in Lexington, VA. Casalino was first with a time of 14:50.49, Mayer was second in 15:02.29, and Takiguchi was third in 15:07.53. On March 20, Andrew Blackburn ’24 finished third overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Women’s Track and Field

The Brewers finished second in an eight-team field at the Vassar Invitational April 8 at Gordon Field. Sophia Henderson ’25 won the 1,500-meter run with a personal best of 5:02.94. Noni Pattington ’25 was second in 5:04.14. Faye Stevens ’25 was fourth in the javelin, and Rhys Miller ’25 finished fourth in the long jump.

Vassar finished sixth in an 18-team field at the Ramapo Invitational April 1 and 2 in Mahwah, NJ. Sarah Gillooly ’22 won the 800-meter run in 2:24.31. Stevens was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. Lola Perez-Fry ’23 was fifth in the long jump, and Rhys Miller ’25 took fourth in the triple jump.

Stevens finished 17th overall in the 100-meter hurdles March 25 at the Monmouth Invitational in Long Branch, NJ. Pattington was 14th in the 5,000-meter run.

Stevens finished fourth in the 400-yard hurdles at the Washington and Lee Invitational March 20 in Lexington, VA.

Men’s Rugby

Vassar defeated William Paterson University, 40-0, but lost to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Hofstra University in the Tri-State Conference tournament April 10 on the Hofstra campus in Hempstead, NY. Carl Aller ’23 had four tries in the win over William Paterson.

Vassar’s 7s squad blanked SUNY Oneonta and SUNY New Paltz but lost to Marist College March 27 at Vassar Farm. Aller scored a try and kicked a conversion in the Brewers’ 22-0 victory over Oneonta. Merrick Rubenstein ’22 scored three tries and kicked a conversion in the 27-0 victory over New Paltz. Liam Manion ’22 scored Vassar’s lone try in the team’s 10-5 loss to Marist.

Women’s Rugby

The Brewers fell to Columbia University, 22-17, in overtime, in the semifinals of the Tri-State Conference Championships April 9 in Fairfield, CT. Emily Howell ’22 scored two tries. The Brewers reached the semifinal match with wins over Hofstra University, Stony Brook University, and Molloy College.

The Brewers outscored their opponents by a 121-7 margin, sweeping three matches on the University of Albany (NY) campus April 3. Vassar defeated Siena, 38-7, then blanked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and SUNY Albany by scores of 46-0 and 37-0, respectively. Howell scored a total of eight tries in the three matches. Caeli Porette ’22 scored six.

Vassar’s 7s squad posted three victories March 27 at Vassar Farm. The Brewers shut out SUNY New Paltz, 27-0, and SUNY Maritime, 35-0. Vassar edged Marist College, 22-15, in the final match of the day. Porette scored two tries in the win over New Paltz. Porette and Howell each had two tries in the victory over Maritime, and both scored twice in the win over Marist.

Men’s Rowing

Vassar’s Varsity Four finished second in a race at Franklin & Marshall University April 8 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY. Skidmore finished first. Members of the squad were coxswain Jean Fisher ’24, Jakob Huddleston ’24, Lucas Angles ’23, Nick Winkler ’24, and Bela Arwen ’23.

Vassar’s Varsity Four finished third in a race against Middlebury College, Skidmore College, and St. John Fisher April 2 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Middlebury won the race, and Skidmore finished second.

Women’s Rowing

Vassar’s Varsity Eight finished fifth overall in races against Skidmore College, Franklin & Marshall University, and William Smith College April 8 on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY. Members of the team were coxswain Abigail Straus ’25, Sarah Winickoff ’25, Sarah Dumaresq ’24, Claire Mitchell ’23, Anna Bishop ’25, Birky Cook ’23, Rebecca Middlen ’25, Posey Whidden ’25, and Cayla Kallman ’25.

The Varsity Eight finished third in a race against Middlebury, Skidmore, and St. John Fisher April 2 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Middlebury finished first, and Skidmore was second.
