Unequal Heat: A Workshop on heat, Law, and Injustice

Location: Rockefeller Hall 101

Ruhie Kumar is the co-founder of Heatwave Action Coalition, a feminist climate action coalition which has been carefully documenting the unequal impacts of heat on women and marginalized genders in India. In this workshop and in conversation with Prof. Kodiveri, they will unpack the ways in which heat, law, and lived experiences of heat impacts interact. The goal of the workshop is to bring together the on-the-ground work being done by HAC with the ongoing legal work being undertaken globally to address heat-related issues.

Illustrated graphic from Question of Cities about extreme heat and women's health. Scenes show a woman cooking over a stove and another riding crowded public transit under a blazing sun, with a text bubble reading "Cooking in dingy kitchens and crammed in public spaces." Below, a visibly distressed, sweating woman in a blue headscarf is pictured alongside a resting pregnant woman, with text stating: "Higher risk of gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and hospitalisation."
