Schubertiade: Auf dem Wasser zu singen

Location:

Skinner Hall of Music

Largely consisting of songs about being on the water, this program highlights Schubert's love of nature. In countless trips to the country with his friends to escape the noisy bustle of Vienna, Schubert absorbed the sounds of wind and sea, transforming them through the poems of Goethe, Mayrhofer, Rellstab and Stollberg into detailed musical memes, leaving a treasure trove of songs evoking lake, sea and stream.

Drew Minter, tenor, Maria Rose, fortepiano
