Moving Yourself in the Space and Time Continuum: Movement, Rhythm, and the Brain, Madeleine E. Hackney, Ph.D.

Location:

Taylor Hall, Room 203

How does rhythm change the way the brain controls movement? Madeleine E. Hackney, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine (Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology), presents research on how timed movement patterns can increase movement capability, coordination, and stability. Drawing on dance-based movement sequences, this talk connects perception and cognition with lower-limb motor control and highlights practical pathways for improving fitness, mobility, and independence. The discussion also looks at real-world uses in rehabilitation approaches and assistive technologies, including mobility supports and in-home applications.

Sponsored by the Cognitive Science and the Dance Departments.
