Immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of our lush greenhouse while exploring the art of cyanotype printing—a photographic process dating back to 1842. No experience is needed; just bring your curiosity and get ready to destress, unwind, and let your imagination roam.

You’ll learn how to arrange plant specimens and natural objects on treated paper, then harness the magic of sunlight to create a striking blue-and-white print that you can keep.

There will be a short presentation of the fascinating history of cyanotypes, from Sir John Herschel’s invention to their pioneering use by botanist Anna Atkins to document plant specimens, making her the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographs.

This event offers an opportunity to get crafty and deepen your connection with nature and photography’s past. Join us at the Olmsted Greenhouse and walk away with one-of-a-kind art.
