Join author Sandip Roy for a conversation about his newly published book, Chapal Rani, The Last Queen of Bengal. In this biography, written from the vantage of Chapal Rani herself, Roy documents the life and experiences of a once-famous female impersonator of the Jatra theater. Chapal Rani’s career offers insight not only into a golden age of Kolkata theater, but into the lives of its performers and the communities it served—communities whose narratives have historically been marginalized, under-documented, and erased.
