Jeremy Dennis: Contested Foundations

Location:

Palmer Gallery, College Center

Jeremy Dennis (b. 1990) is a contemporary fine art photographer, an enrolled Tribal Member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton, New York, and lead artist and founder of the nonprofit Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio Inc. on the Shinnecock Reservation. His work centers Indigenous identity, culture, and the legacies of colonial assimilation. Contested Foundations at the Palmer Gallery will feature work from Dennis’s Rise series, which plays with time and myth, collapsing past and present to expose the contradictions of American identity. The work asks viewers to reconsider their relationship to the land, to the artifacts they romanticize, and to the Indigenous histories that remain embedded—often uneasily— beneath their feet.

Sponsored by the Campus Activities Office and the Palmer Gallery.
