Beyond Wild Things: Maurice Sendak and the Age of the Picture Book

Jonathan Weinberg, Ph.D., is an artist and curator of The Maurice Sendak Foundation. His books include Ambition and Love in American Art and Pier Groups: Art and Sex Along the New York Waterfront. He was the lead curator of the landmark touring exhibition Art After Stonewall, 1969–89, and co-curated and edited the catalog for Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak.
His paintings are held in major collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His portraits were featured in the 2025 exhibition Sunday at the Nut House: Marc McChesney, Maurice Sendak, Jamison Odone, and Jonathan Weinberg at Frostburg State University.
