Arboretum Celebration and Community Care Day
Library Lawn under the big London Plane Tree
This Arbor Day, come on over to the Library Lawn anytime between 12:00–3:00 p.m. to celebrate both our campus trees and the wonderful people in our community. The event will feature snacks and drinks, an opportunity to give a flower to someone special, ice cream with the groundskeepers, the planting of the Class of 2028 Tree, and much more!
This Community Care event marks the conclusion of the Vassar Arboretum’s Centennial Year, continuing the theme of “Care for each other and care for the earth.” President Bradley will kick off the event at noon. Attendees can pick up a flower with a card to give to someone special or a potted plant from the Vassar Greenhouse (while supplies last). Members of the Arboretum Committee, Counseling Service, the Preserve, and the VC Campus Artifact Project will offer activities alongside the student organization VTree. At 2:00 p.m., we’ll celebrate the Groundskeepers of Vassar with ice cream, followed by the Class of 2028 tree planting at 2:30 p.m.
On the eve of Arbor Day, the Loeb will hold a panel discussion about the past, present, and future of preserving and protecting Vassar flora. “Picturing & Preserving Plants at Vassar” will take place on April 23 at 5 p.m. in the Loeb galleries, officially opening the exhibition The Botanist at Vassar.
This event is sponsored by the Arboretum Committee, the offices of the President, Student Growth and Engagement, and Sustainability. This event is free and open to the public.
