Meet David Ambroz ’02, who will be honored at Convocation with the AAVC’s 2024 Spirit of Vassar Award. Ambroz’s acclaimed memoir, A Place Called Home, explores themes of family, identity, and resilience, offering a poignant look into his life journey, including his experiences with homelessness. Ambroz is a national poverty and child welfare expert and advocate. He was recognized by President Obama as an American Champion of Change. Currently serving as the Head of Community Engagement (West) for Amazon, Ambroz previously led Corporate Social Responsibility for Walt Disney Television, and has served as President of the Los Angeles City Planning Commission as well as a California Child Welfare Council member.

The Spirit of Vassar Award is presented to an alum who has demonstrated extraordinary and distinguished leadership, contribution, and commitment to serving a community in which they effect positive, transformative societal change. This contribution may have been made through the recipient’s career, community work, or volunteer service. The award recognizes the values of service and civic responsibility that are fundamental to a Vassar education.
