From Land to Sea: Musical Impressions for Harp Trio

Nov. 1, 2024, 8:00 p.m.
Location:

Skinner Hall of Music

Claude Debussy set a standard for the harp trio chamber formation with his seminal work “Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp.” This program explores the ways in which various modern and contemporary composers have leaned into the impressionistic possibilities for harp, viola, and flute following Debussy’s work, with a particular focus on musical settings of the natural world. The program features works by Toru Takemitsu, Timo Andres, Sally Beamish, Danielle Eva Schwob, and Miguel del Aguila in combination with Debussy’s trailblazing sonata to bring the audience on a musical journey from the wind blowing to the forest, and from the countryside to the depths of the ocean. The Walden Trio: Chelsea Lane, harp, Ginevra Petrucci, flute, Maren Rothfritz, viola.

Sponsored by the Vassar Music Department.
