Feb. 20, 2024, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
Location:

Rockefeller Hall 200

Peter S. Henne is a 2005 graduate of Vassar College and Vassar’s Political Science Department. He is currently Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of Middle East Studies at the University of Vermont. In addition to numerous journal articles, he has authored two books, Islamic Politics, Muslim States and Counterterrorism Tensions (Cambridge University Press, 2017), and Religious Appeals in Power Politics (Cornell University Press, 2023). In his lecture, Henne will explore a subject largely ignored by scholars: how states wield religion as a critical tool in their competition with one another for power and influence.
