Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show

Monica Macer ’93 and Anthony Sparks P’26 will discuss their paths as showrunners, screenwriters, and executive producers, insights into the writing process for television, and more! Shona Tucker, Professor of Drama on the Mary Riepma Ross ’32 Chair, will moderate the conversation.

Mozzarella sticks and garlic knots will be on hand. Students are encouraged to register in advance on Handshake. Faculty, administrators, and staff are also welcome to attend this event! Organized by the Center for Career Education & Advancement with support from VCTV & the Drama & Film Departments. 

Monica Macer ’93 is a screenwriter, executive producer, and showrunner of Korean and African American descent with a 15+ year career in television that has spanned broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms. Credits as a showrunner, writer, or executive producer include: LOST (ABC), QUEEN SUGAR (OWN), MACGYVER (CBS), GENTEFIED (Netflix),PRISON BREAK (FOX), TEEN WOLF (MTV), NASHVILLE (ABC), DECEPTION (NBC), and THE BREAKS (VH1).

Dr. Anthony Sparks P’26 is an award-winning television writer, producer, and showrunner with a 20+ year career in television and 30+ years in the arts. Credits as a showrunner,writer, or executive producer include: BEL-AIR (Peacock); MIKE TYSON (Hulu), QUEEN SUGAR (OWN), THE BLACKLIST (NBC), UNDERCOVERS (NBC, J.J. Abrams), and LINCOLN HEIGHTS (Freeform).
