During its annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast over Reunion weekend, AAVC presented its Outstanding Service to Vassar Award to Barbara Manfrey Vogelstein ’76. The highly deserving Vogelstein had served on Vassar College’s Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2015. Her determined leadership as chair of the Vassar 150: World Changing capital campaign—which began in 2006 and concluded in 2011, Vassar’s sesquicentennial year—helped the college raise more than $430 million, far exceeding its goal of $400 million. Remarkably, in the midst of the country’s financial crisis, Vassar had its second-largest fundraising year ever.

In addition, Vogelstein has served as a member of Vassar’s Development Council and Reunion Leadership Gifts Committee, and has shared her professional insights with Vassar students as a participant in Vassar’s Career Advisory Program.

Accepting the award, Vogelstein said, “Many of you who have attended our Vassar events have heard me ask, ‘How has Vassar changed your world?’ I hope you have seen today how it changed mine and why it was so important for me to give back. I share this award today with everyone who also loves Vassar and wants to give back.”

As part of the award presentation, members of the Night Owls (past and present) serenaded Vogelstein with a touching rendition of Natalie Merchant's “Kind and Generous.”

A 1976 graduate of Vassar College with a B.A. in economics, she received a Chartered Financial Analyst certification from CFA Institute in 1982.

Vogelstein spent 24 years at leading private equity firms in the U.S. and Europe. She retired in 2000 and now spends her time pursuing various charitable activities. She continues to serve as one of Vassar’s most dedicated volunteers. She is married to John L. Vogelstein, former president and vice-chairman of Warburg Pincus and current chairman of New Providence Asset Management, LLC.
