Fellowship Opportunities for Studying Abroad
Nearly every year, students majoring in German Studies successfully apply for awards and other fellowships to study at a German university or teach English at a high school in Germany or Austria. Students interested in applying for the following grants are strongly encouraged to consult with the Office for Fellowships, as well as faculty members in the department, who will provide letters of recommendation and important guidance on developing an application.
Fellowship Programs
- Fulbright Awards to study at a German university or teach English. (Applications must be submitted through Vassar’s Office for Fellowships. The deadline typically falls in early-to-mid September.)
- German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers highly competitive opportunities including:
- Awards for graduate study at a German university
- Summer fellowships for juniors
- Undergraduate fellowships for sophomores and juniors to spend a semester or year studying at a German university (either as an individual or part of an organized study abroad program).
- Bundestag Internships through the DAAD.
- US Teaching Assistantship program to teach English in Austria: (Deadline is typically from the middle of November to the middle of January)
