Sad News: Sofia Jane (Fi) McKenzie

Dear all,

It is with sadness that I write to let you know that Sofia Jane (Fi) McKenzie passed away on July 5, 2026. Fi graduated from Vassar in 2025 with distinction in biology and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Fi found particular wonder in studying overlooked species, and during their time on campus, they collected data on wood frog breeding activity in the Preserve at Vassar. Their profound respect for nature–recognizing the inherent value in every living thing–was inspiring to all who knew them.

They were known as a wise soul, a steadfast and loyal friend, and an unwavering ally. Fi was beloved for their warmth and generosity of spirit. They will be deeply missed.
