In 1930, the Department of Music acquired a collection of rare materials from the estate of Teresa Carreño, the brilliant Venezuelan-born concert pianist, composer, and larger-than-life figure. For decades, the collection gathered dust, until, in 1991, Professor Emeritus of Music Brian Mann prepared an inventory and devoted an article to it.

In this talk, Brian Mann will give an idea of the breadth of the collection, which contains Teresa Carreño’s compositions, concert programs, correspondence, and much more. He will also perform one or two of her works.
