Celebrate the opening of the Loeb’s new exhibition, Photo-Design: Persuasion, Critique, Fantasy, which looks at the many ways designers have used photography over the last century to imagine new possibilities. British Sudanese artist Sarah Elawad, who is featured in the exhibition and contributed to its design, joins exhibition curator Jessica D. Brier in conversation.

More about Sarah Elawad

Sarah Elawad is a Sudanese, British-born artist. She received her MFA in Graphic Design at the Yale School of Art in 2023 and is now based in Brooklyn, NYC. Sarah has had work exhibited in New York, Amsterdam, Doha, Shanghai, Istanbul, and more. Her most recent solo shows include an exhibition in Doha at VCUArts Qatar Gallery and an installation on the Africa Center windows at their grand building on 5th Ave in New York City. Sarah makes artwork that celebrates beauty, love, and her culture, often highlighted through explorations of her interpersonal relationships. Her visual practice is collage-like, kitsch, and experimental, encompassing a wide range of materials such as experimental prints, garments, watercolour painting, textiles, video art, installations, and more.
