Susan Bialek
Susan Bialek has taught private piano lessons to students of all ages and levels for over thirty years. She has served as accompanist for local area All County and Area All State choirs as well as for the Marist College Chapel Singers where she also taught sight reading and theory. She has served as a piano adjudicator for piano at local area NYSSMA solo festivals.
While a student at Vassar, Susan studied with Blanca Uribe, Todd Crow, and Huguette van Ackere and chamber music with Luis Garcia Renart. While a graduate student, she studied with Morris Borenstein and Anthony LaMagra, a wonderful teacher of piano teachers. Ms. Bialek did summer course work in piano pedagogy at Westminster Choir College with Phyllis Lehrer, with special focus on the relationship between sight reading and memorization and the art of effective practice.
Susan has served as intern conductor with the Toronto Children’s Chorus, and has prepared children’s opera choruses for Bard SummerScape, the Annapolis Opera Company, Baltimore Concert Opera, as well as for collaborations with Cappella Festiva of Poughkeepsie, Maryland State Boy Choir, Baltimore Choral Arts Society and Handel Choir of Baltimore. Ms. Bialek currently serves as Artistic Director of the Children’s Chorus of Maryland School of Music, where she directs three choirs and teaches theory and sight reading. There she also enjoys the opportunity to accompany students for honor choir auditions and occasional college auditions.
Ms. Bialek holds degrees from Vassar College and Manhattanville College, and Kodaly Certification from The Hartt School.
