President Elizabeth Bradley marveled at the resilience of the Class of 2021. The class president assured classmates that it’s never too late to learn something new. Finally, graduates got to toss their hats and be welcomed as alumnae/i.

The Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement and Education hosted a series of events on the Vassar campus this fall focusing on the impact of barriers, both physical and psychological, on people coping with forced migration and family separation.

Alumnae/i, students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered for the Larry H. Mamiya Memorial Conference Celebrating 50 Years of Africana Studies at Vassar College in early November. Several alumnae who participated in the three-day occupation of Main Building in 1969, widely credited for helping to secure support for the college’s new Black Studies program, were in attendance.

Steven Caras has had two successful arts careers: as a dancer with George Balanchine’s New York City Ballet and as a dance photographer. He recently shared his extensive knowledge of both fields with Vassar students and the larger community through a lecture, master classes, and an exhibit at the Palmer Gallery.

This fall, the Art Center will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Vassar College Advisory Council for Photography with an exhibition dedicated entirely to the medium. Shape of Light: Defining Photographs from the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center will open on September 20. A reception will be held on October 12 with a lecture by Carol Squiers, who served as curator at the International Center for Photography in New York City.
