John Hulsey
John Hulsey is an artist and filmmaker who teaches courses in video, installation, and interdisciplinary studio practices at Vassar. He holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from the University of California Los Angeles, a Maîtrise in Cinema Studies from the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3, a Diplôme de l’école from the École Normale Supérieure (rue d’Ulm), and an AB from Harvard College.
His films, videos, photographic works, and public projects have been presented internationally at the Centre Georges Pompidou, The Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, the U.S. Pavilion of the Venice Architecture Biennial, Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, and in various public places. His work and writing has appeared in Cinéma, The New York Times, Creative Time Reports, and in several edited volumes, and he has received fellowships and grants from the Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Points North Institute, the Film Study Center at Harvard University, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and LEF. Prior to joining the faculty at Vassar, John taught interdisciplinary studio practices at Wesleyan University.
