This special issue of VQ commemorates Vassar’s momentous decision to admit men, starting in 1969. It examines the sociopolitical backdrop, the factors that led to the decision, and the reactions elicited by the mere deliberation on whether to merge with Yale. In addition, more than two dozen alums reflect on coeducation, and trustees and students ask what “coeducation” means in an era in which gender expression is ever more fluid and expansive.
