New Chair of Vassar Board of Trustees
William A. Plapinger ’74 is the new chair of the Vassar College Board of Trustees. Plapinger had served since 2005 as vice chair of the board, and in the past year also chaired the presidential search committee that selected Catharine Bond Hill as the 10th president of Vassar. Plapinger was originally elected to serve on the Board of Trustees in 1996.
A resident of London, England, since 1987, Plapinger is coordinator of European offices for the international law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, as well as the managing partner of the firm’s London office. Plapinger studied history at Vassar and earned his J.D. in 1978 from the New York University School of Law.
The maternal grandmother and great-aunt of Plapinger’s wife were members of the Vassar classes of 1917 and 1914, respectively. Plapinger’s middle child, Elizabeth, just began her freshman year at Vassar.
