Containing a Home: Adam Kalkin '84

For many homeowners, discovering the history behind their houses holds special interest. For those whom architect Adam Kalkin ’84 helps become homeowners, however, learning their houses’ stories isn’t about asking traditional questions, like “When was it built?” or “Who lived here?” Instead it requires asking, “Where in the world has my house been?” Literally.

Alumnae House Celebration: House of Stories

On May 7, 2005, more than 200 members of the Vassar community gathered for a garden party to fete an 80-year-old. It was neither a retiring faculty member nor a distinguished alumna, but rather the “House on the Hill.” A man honoring his mother, an alumna traveling a long distance, a former trustee reflecting on days past, and a student embracing her family history—these are just some of the stories that were shared at the celebration of Alumnae House.

Saving the Earth One Thesis At A Time

While my senior thesis—along with most of your, I imagine—is busy collecting dust on a long-forgotten bookshelf, Liz Cushman Titus Putnam’s ’55 just celebrated its 50th birthday. And it deserved the party.

Scholarly Exploration

When the VQ asked Vassar professors to recommend a student working on an interesting or independent project that they are supervising, the results were in true Vassar style, as varied as our students themselves.
