Artfully Done

Even as an undergraduate, Susan Donahue Kuretsky ’63 put Vassar’s art collection to good use. Following the 1962 acquisition of Dutch artist Daniel Vosmaer’s painting View of a Dutch Village (c. 1660) by the Vassar College Art Gallery, Kuretsky studied the painting as part of her senior independent work in the art department and crafted an essay about it that appeared in the Vassar Journal of Undergraduate Studies (vol. 19, 1964).

Alberto Goes to the Prom

It was the night of the prom, Signorina Agnes’ boyfriend was sick. Would Moravia be her escort? He agreed. Taking him possessively by the arm, Agnes brought him to her room and explained the rituals surrounding the dance card and its sixteen dances.

On Both Sides of the Law

When Jeff Smith entered Vassar with the class of 1974—the first class to have men enrolled for all four years—“the school was maybe 20 percent male,” he said. “The odds, as they say, were in my favor. It was like dying and going to heaven.”
