Video: Art Talks

Art Talks Video

The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center hosts its final Artful Dodger event of the fall semester this month. The popular talks are relaxed and informal, and feature an engaging member of the Vassar community sharing personal experiences and interpretations of a work of art in the collection.

On October 11, sociology professor Light Carruyo focused on the iconic photograph “Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California,” taken by Dorothea Lange in 1936 while working for the Farm Security Administration. Diane Butler, academic programs coordinator for the Art Center, recapped Carruyo’s talk in an excellent post at Off the Wall, the Art Center’s blog.

Biology professor Lynn Christenson closes out the series on November 1.

If you can’t come to the art, don’t worry. We bring the art to you … with “Art Talks” on Vassar’s YouTube channel. Watch student docent Lina Kavaliunas ’13 offer her personal perspective on Mark Rothko's "No. 1 (No. 18, 1948)." –Peter Bronski
