A founding member of the Haiti Project’s Medical Advisory Board and an award-winning Haitian-American writer will be this year’s honorees at the organization’s annual Art and Soul Gala March 28 at the Vassar Alumnae House.

The U.S. Department of State has recognized Vassar College for being one of the colleges and universities with the highest number of students selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

MODfest features performances and exhibits by students, faculty, and guest artists. It is hosted by the Vassar College Music Department in collaboration with the Creative Arts Across Disciplines office. Some events require tickets and reservations, but all are free and open to the public.

Vassar College will host its annual “Service of Lessons and Carols,” an Advent service of readings, choral anthems and congregational carols that culminates in a candle lighting ceremony, in the College Chapel.

When the Iraq War began in 2003, then-NBC News Correspondent and Vassar College alum Chip Reid was embedded with U.S. Marines as they fought their way from Kuwait to Baghdad. On November 9, Reid will speak on the Vassar campus about the book he wrote, “Battle Scars,” that chronicles that experience and the conversations Reid had with those Marines 20 years later.

Hundreds of paintings and handcrafts created by Haitian artists will go on sale September 29 through October 2 during The Vassar Haiti Project’s 23rd annual Families Weekend Art Sale & Auction.
